Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE)
TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations) are UK laws designed to protect employees when a business or part of it is transferred to a new owner. In essence, employees' existing contracts are automatically transferred, preserving their terms, pay, and conditions. The law aims to prevent unfair dismissals and ensure continuity of employment rights during such transfers. Both the employer transferring the business and the new owner must comply with TUPE rules, which also require informing and consulting employees about the transfer.
