TRALI risk factors

TRALI, or Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury, is a lung complication that can occur after a blood transfusion. Risk factors include receiving plasma-rich blood products, such as whole blood or plasma, and having conditions like recent surgery, infections, or lung problems already. Women who have been pregnant multiple times are also at higher risk because they may develop antibodies that can affect transfused blood. Overall, the risk increases when the immune system reacts to components in donated blood, causing lung inflammation and fluid buildup, which can lead to breathing difficulties.
