Trait Selection
Trait selection is the process of choosing specific characteristics or qualities—such as height, eye color, or disease resistance—within a population to promote or enhance through breeding or genetic techniques. By selecting individuals with desirable traits, organizations aim to increase the frequency of those traits in future generations. This approach is common in agriculture, animal breeding, and medicine to develop plants, animals, or humans with improved qualities, such as higher yield, better health, or specific physical features. Essentially, trait selection guides the development of living organisms toward preferred attributes.
