Traction Apophysitis
Traction apophysitis is an inflammation of the growth plate where a tendon attaches to a bone, often caused by repetitive stress or overuse. It commonly affects young athletes whose bones are still developing. The pulling action from muscles or tendons during activity causes irritation, pain, and swelling at the attachment site. This condition is typically seen in areas like the heel (Sever's disease) or kneecap (Osgood-Schlatter disease). Rest, activity modification, and sometimes physical therapy are usually effective in managing symptoms and allowing healing.
