Trabecular meshwork
The trabecular meshwork is a spongy, tissue structure located near the front of the eye, surrounding the base of the cornea. It functions as a drainage system for aqueous humor, the fluid that fills the eye, helping to regulate intraocular pressure. Proper drainage through the trabecular meshwork maintains healthy eye pressure; if this pathway becomes blocked or less efficient, pressure can increase, potentially leading to glaucoma. It plays a crucial role in eye health by balancing fluid production and drainage to preserve vision.
