TPLF (Tigray People's Liberation Front)

The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) is a political and military organization from Ethiopia's Tigray region. Originally formed in the 1970s to fight for Tigrayan rights and independence, it became a leading part of Ethiopia’s ruling coalition for many years. In recent times, tensions between the TPLF and the central Ethiopian government escalated into a conflict starting in 2020, resulting in violence and humanitarian crises. The TPLF aims to protect Tigrayan interests but is also viewed by others as a major actor shaping Ethiopia’s complex political landscape.
