TPA (Trade Promotion Authority)
Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), also known as fast-track authority, is a legislative process that allows the U.S. Congress to approve international trade agreements more efficiently. When TPA is in place, Congress can approve or reject trade deals without making changes, but cannot amend them. This gives trade negotiators confidence that agreements will move forward once negotiated. TPA facilitates complex trade negotiations, enabling the U.S. to participate effectively in international commerce, while still involving Congress in the final approval process. It balances executive negotiation power with legislative oversight, promoting fair and accessible international trade agreements.
