Toxin A
Toxin A is a harmful substance produced by the bacteria *Clostridioides difficile* (commonly called C. diff). It damages the lining of the intestines, leading to inflammation, watery diarrhea, abdominal pain, and sometimes more serious complications like colitis. This toxin disrupts the normal functions of intestinal cells, causing them to become inflamed and lose their ability to absorb nutrients and fluids properly. Toxin A is a key factor in C. diff infections, which often occur after antibiotic use weakens the normal gut bacteria, allowing C. diff to overgrow and produce this damaging toxin.
