toxicodendron radicans (poison ivy)

Toxicodendron radicans, commonly known as poison ivy, is a plant that causes skin irritation upon contact. It contains an oily resin called urushiol, which triggers allergic skin reactions in most people, causing itching, redness, and blisters. Poison ivy can grow as a vine, shrub, or ground cover, often with clusters of three leaflets. To avoid reactions, identify and steer clear of the plant, wear protective clothing when outdoors, and thoroughly wash skin and clothing if contact occurs. Although usually not dangerous, in some cases, reactions can be severe or lead to secondary infections.
