Tourniquet Application

A tourniquet is a device used to control severe bleeding from a limb by applying sustained pressure to restrict blood flow. It’s typically a wide, strong band that’s tightened above the injury site to temporarily halt blood loss until medical help arrives. Proper placement is crucial—above the wound but not over a joint—and it should be tight enough to stop bleeding without causing additional tissue damage. Tourniquets are used in emergency situations when bleeding cannot be controlled by direct pressure and are critical for preventing excessive blood loss.
