Toughness (game mechanic)

Toughness is a game mechanic that represents a character's resilience to damage. It acts as a buffer, reducing the amount of harm taken when hit. When a character sustains damage, their Toughness score subtracts from the total damage, lessening its impact. If the damage exceeds their Toughness, the remaining harm affects their health or vitality. Essentially, Toughness measures how well someone can withstand physical punishment before their well-being begins to decline, providing a secondary layer of protection beyond basic health or health points.
