Total harmonic distortion (THD)

Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) measures how much an audio or electrical signal differs from its original form due to the presence of additional frequencies called harmonics. These unwanted frequencies are generated when a device or system alters the pure sound or signal, causing it to sound distorted or less clear. A lower THD percentage indicates a cleaner, more accurate reproduction, while a higher THD suggests more distortion. THD is important in audio equipment, amplifiers, and electrical systems to ensure quality and fidelity in sound and signal performance.
