Torricelli Act
The Torricelli Act, enacted in 1992, is a U.S. law that restricts financial assistance, sales, or loans to Nicaragua's Sandinista government. Its goal is to pressure the Sandinistas to adhere to democratic principles and reduce their influence, particularly through economic means. Essentially, it limits U.S. government funds and private support that could benefit the Nicaraguan government, encouraging political change by reducing the country's access to certain types of aid and trade.
