Tornado Safety Guidelines
Tornado safety involves staying informed through weather alerts and seeking shelter promptly. If a tornado watch is issued, review your emergency plan. When a tornado warning is confirmed, move to a small, windowless interior room on the lowest floor, such as a closet or bathroom, and protect yourself with a mattress or heavy blankets. Avoid windows, doors, and outside walls. If you're outdoors or in a vehicle, find sturdy shelter or lie flat in a ditch, covering your head. After the tornado passes, remain cautious of debris and hazards, and listen for updates before leaving shelter. Prior preparation and quick action can save lives.
