TOPEX/Poseidon
TOPEX/Poseidon was a satellite launched in 1992 to accurately measure Earth's sea surface heights. By tracking small variations in ocean levels, it helped scientists understand ocean circulation, climate change, and weather patterns. The satellite used radar to bounce signals off the ocean surface, providing precise data that improved weather forecasts and our knowledge of how the oceans influence global climate. It operated for over a decade before being retired in 2005, and its data significantly contributed to advancements in climate science and oceanography.
