Tonometer
A tonometer is a medical device used by eye doctors to measure the pressure inside your eye, known as intraocular pressure. This measurement is important because elevated eye pressure can be a sign of glaucoma, which can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss if untreated. The procedure typically involves gently touching or resting a small, precise probe on the eye's surface after numbing it with eye drops. Tonometers come in different types, such as non-contact (air-puff) and contact methods, but all aim to accurately assess eye pressure to help maintain eye health.
