Tonic Sol-fa

Tonic sol-fa is a musical notation system that uses syllables—such as do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti—to represent musical pitches and intervals relative to a tonal center, or "tonic." Instead of traditional sheet music with notes on a staff, it provides a vocal and educational approach to learning and singing music by focusing on the relationships between notes, making it easier to understand melodies, sight-singing, and harmonies. Developed in the 19th century, it is widely used in vocal training, choirs, and music education to develop musical ear and sight-reading skills.
