Tongyong Pinyin

Tongyong Pinyin is a Romanization system developed in Taiwan to represent Chinese sounds using the Latin alphabet. It is designed to provide a clear and consistent way to transcribe Mandarin pronunciation, especially for learning and linguistic purposes. While similar to the more widely used Hanyu Pinyin, Tongyong Pinyin features some differences in spelling conventions and pronunciation cues, making it easier for native Taiwanese speakers to interpret Mandarin sounds. It was primarily used in Taiwan from 2000 to 2008 before being gradually phased out in favor of Hanyu Pinyin for international standardization.
