Tokyo Electric Power Company

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) is Japan's largest utility provider, responsible for generating, distributing, and supplying electricity to the Tokyo metropolitan area and surrounding regions. Founded in 1951, TEPCO operates a mix of nuclear, thermal, and hydroelectric power plants to meet the energy needs of millions of customers. The company plays a crucial role in Japan’s energy infrastructure but became globally known following the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, which resulted from a major earthquake and tsunami. Since then, TEPCO has worked on safety improvements, decontamination efforts, and transitioning towards more renewable energy sources.
