Tokenism in Policy

Tokenism in policy refers to the practice of making a superficial effort to include individuals from marginalized groups without granting them real power or influence. This can manifest as including a few representatives from diverse backgrounds in a decision-making process while failing to address systemic issues or ensure meaningful participation. Essentially, it creates the appearance of inclusivity or diversity but does not lead to substantial change or equitable treatment. Tokenism often undermines the goals of genuine representation and can make it difficult for true progress toward equality to occur within institutions or organizations.
