Tokaj Wine Region
The Tokaj Wine Region, located in northeastern Hungary, is famous for producing unique sweet wines, especially Tokaji Aszú. The region’s climate and volcanic soil create ideal conditions for grapes like Furmint and Hárslevelű. These grapes are often affected by noble rot (botrytis), which concentrates sugars and flavors, resulting in rich, complex wines with notes of honey, apricot, and citrus. Tokaj has a long history of wine-making, earning UNESCO World Heritage status, and is regarded as one of the world’s oldest classified wine regions. Its wines are celebrated for their balance of sweetness and acidity, making them suitable for both sipping and pairing with foods.
