Tobacco and Lung Cancer

Tobacco use, especially smoking cigarettes, significantly increases the risk of developing lung cancer. Tobacco smoke contains thousands of chemicals, many of which can damage lung cells and lead to mutations. Over time, these damaged cells grow uncontrollably, forming tumors that can interfere with lung function. Not everyone who smokes will develop lung cancer, but smokers are much more likely to than non-smokers. Quitting tobacco reduces this risk and benefits overall lung health, highlighting the importance of cessation efforts for prevention.
