Toba
Toba, short for Toba Supervolcano, is a massive volcanic caldera located in Indonesia. It erupted around 74,000 years ago in one of the largest volcanic events in human history, releasing an enormous volume of ash and gases. This eruption significantly affected global climate, possibly causing widespread cooling and impacting early human populations. The caldera now forms Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world. Toba's history and size make it a key site for studying volcanic activity, climate change, and human evolution.
