TNT equivalent
The TNT equivalent is a way to measure the amount of energy released during an explosion by comparing it to the energy released by a specific quantity of TNT (trinitrotoluene). It provides a common scale for understanding the strength of different explosions, from small detonations to nuclear blasts. One ton of TNT releases a certain amount of energy when it explodes; for example, a 100-ton TNT explosion releases 100 times that energy. This measurement helps scientists and engineers quantify and compare the destructive power of various explosive events accurately and consistently.
