TLC

Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) is a laboratory technique used to separate and identify different substances within a mixture. It involves placing a small spot of the mixture on a flat, thin layer of a special material (like silica gel) coated on a plate. The plate is then placed in a solvent, which moves up the plate by capillary action. Different components in the mixture travel at different speeds, separating along the plate. By comparing the distance moved by each component to a known standard, scientists can identify and analyze the substances present. TLC is quick, cost-effective, and useful for monitoring chemical reactions or checking purity.
