Titanic (the ship)
The Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912 during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. Known for its luxury and advanced safety features, it was considered a marvel of engineering. However, it struck an iceberg late at night, causing it to flood and sink within hours. Over 1,500 of the approximately 2,200 people onboard lost their lives. The disaster highlighted the limitations of safety measures of the time and led to improvements in maritime safety regulations. The sinking remains one of the most famous maritime tragedies in history.
