tissue matching

Tissue matching involves comparing specific proteins called antigens on the surface of cells, especially in organs or tissues used for transplantation. When donor and recipient tissues have similar antigens, the immune system is less likely to recognize the transplanted tissue as foreign and attack it. Matching these antigens, mainly HLA (human leukocyte antigen) types, helps ensure the transplant is more likely to succeed and reduces the risk of rejection. Proper tissue matching improves long-term outcomes by promoting compatibility between donor tissue and the recipient's immune system.
