Tirpitz (operation)
Operation Tirpitz was a WWII Allied naval mission aimed at neutralizing the German battleship Tirpitz, a major threat in Norway. The Germans had stationed the battleship in a fjord, where it threatened Allied shipping routes and posed a strategic challenge. The Allies conducted a series of daring attacks—mainly bombing raids by aircraft and submarine attacks—to sink or disable Tirpitz. Despite several efforts, the ship remained afloat for years, but these operations eventually limited its operational capability, reducing its threat to Allied convoys and helping secure the North Atlantic during the war.
