tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy
Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) is an advanced technique that combines a sharp, nanoscale tip with traditional Raman spectroscopy to achieve highly detailed molecular imaging. When the tip is illuminated with laser light, it concentrates the electromagnetic field at its apex, dramatically amplifying the Raman signals from molecules just beneath it. This enables scientists to detect and map chemical compositions at nanometer-scale resolution, far beyond the limits of conventional Raman methods. TERS thus provides precise, label-free insight into materials at the molecular level, useful in fields like nanotechnology, materials science, and biology.
