Tintinnabuli
Tintinnabuli is a musical style developed by composer Arvo Pärt, inspired by the sound of bells. It combines simple, stately melodies with harmonies that evoke the clarity and tranquility of ringing bells. The technique features two parts: one voice (the "tintinnabuli") moves stepwise around a central tone, like the tolling of a bell, while another part creates a pulsating backdrop. This approach results in music that feels meditative, serene, and spiritually evocative, emphasizing minimalism and purity of sound. It’s often used in sacred or contemplative compositions to evoke a sense of calm and reflection.
