Timeline of human evolution

The timeline of human evolution shows how our ancestors changed over millions of years. It begins around 7 million years ago with early primates and the split from ape relatives. About 4-2 million years ago, australopithecines walked upright. Homo habilis appeared around 2.4 million years ago, followed by Homo erectus, who spread from Africa about 1.9 million years ago. Modern humans, Homo sapiens, evolved roughly 300,000 years ago, developing advanced tools, language, and culture.
