Time Under Tension (TUT)
Time Under Tension (TUT) refers to the total amount of time your muscles are actively working during a set of exercise. It encompasses the duration from the start of the movement until the muscles finish the complete repetition. For example, if you perform a bicep curl slowly and intentionally, the longer you keep your muscles engaged, the greater the TUT. Increasing TUT can enhance muscle fatigue and growth by providing more stimulus. It’s a useful concept for designing effective training routines, emphasizing not just the number of reps but how long muscles are under load.
