Tie-Down Roping

Tie-Down Roping is a competitive rodeo event where a rider on horseback aims to rope a calf around the neck or horns, then quickly dismount and secure the calf’s legs with a rope called a tie-down or pigging string. The goal is to catch the calf, dismount, and tie its four legs together within a specific time, usually around 10 seconds. It tests the rider’s roping accuracy, quickness, and ability to work efficiently with the horse, showcasing skills essential for cattle handling and ranch work.
