Thyrotropin

Thyrotropin, also known as thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. Its main role is to regulate the production of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) in the thyroid gland, which control metabolism, energy levels, and overall body functions. When thyroid hormone levels are low, TSH rises to stimulate the thyroid to produce more; when levels are high, TSH decreases. Testing TSH levels helps doctors assess thyroid health and diagnose conditions like hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
