Thyroid biopsies
A thyroid biopsy is a procedure to collect small tissue samples from the thyroid gland, located in the neck, usually to check for lumps or growths. The most common method is a fine needle aspiration (FNA), where a thin needle is inserted through the skin into the thyroid nodule to draw out cells for examination under a microscope. This helps doctors determine if a nodule is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). The procedure is minimally invasive, typically causes minimal discomfort, and results guide further treatment decisions.
