Thylakoid membrane

The thylakoid membrane is a vital structure within plant cells’ chloroplasts, where photosynthesis occurs. It is a series of flattened, sac-like membranes that contain chlorophyll and other pigments. These pigments absorb sunlight and convert it into chemical energy, producing oxygen and energy-rich molecules like ATP and NADPH. The thylakoid membrane hosts the photosystems and electron transport chain, which facilitate these energy conversions. Essentially, it acts as the site where sunlight is captured and transformed into a form plants can use to grow and produce food.
