Thuparamaya

Thuparamaya is an ancient Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka, known for being one of the oldest and most revered stupas (dome-shaped structures) on the island. Built in the 3rd century BC, it served as a monastery and a place for meditation and religious activities. The stupa was constructed to enshrine relics of the Buddha, making it a significant pilgrimage site. Over the centuries, it has been restored and remains a symbol of Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist heritage. Its architecture and historical importance reflect the early spread of Buddhism and the craftsmanship of ancient Sri Lankan civilization.
