Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm

A thoracic aortic aneurysm is a bulge or dilation occurring in the part of the aorta—the main blood vessel carrying blood from the heart through the chest. This weakening of the vessel wall can grow over time and poses a risk of tearing (rupture), which can cause severe, life-threatening bleeding. Common causes include high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, and genetic conditions. Many aneurysms develop without symptoms, but some may cause chest pain or difficulty breathing. Monitoring and treatment, such as medication or surgery, are important to prevent serious complications.
