Thomas Südhof is a renowned German-American biochemist who studies how nerve cells communicate. He discovered how neurons release chemicals called neurotransmitters, which send signals across synapses to other neurons. His research uncovered the detailed processes involved in vesicle trafficking and neurotransmitter release, essential for brain function, learning, and memory.
