Thomas Muir (social reformer)
Thomas Muir (1765–1799) was a Scottish lawyer and political activist who championed democratic reform and fought against injustices in his time. He passionately advocated for greater representation in government, opposed hereditary privilege, and sought social and political equality. Muir was a leader among the radical movement inspired by the French Revolution, which aimed to improve political rights and challenge oppressive systems. His activism often led to legal persecution; he was imprisoned for his beliefs but remained committed to reform. Muir is regarded as an important early advocate for democratic principles and human rights in Britain.
