Third Voyage

The Third Voyage, conducted by explorer James Cook from 1776 to 1779, was an expedition to explore the Pacific Ocean, focus on the northwest coast of North America, and find new lands. Cook aimed to chart uncharted waters, study local societies, and advance navigation. During this voyage, he mapped the coast of Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands, discovering Hawaii’s islands and understanding their significance. The journey provided valuable geographic and scientific knowledge, strengthening maritime understanding and aiding future navigation efforts, while also establishing relationships with indigenous populations and collecting important natural history specimens.
