Thiazide Diuretics

Thiazide diuretics are medications used to help the body eliminate excess salt and water through urine. They are commonly prescribed to lower high blood pressure and reduce swelling caused by fluid retention. By acting on the kidneys, thiazides decrease the amount of salt reabsorbed, which in turn reduces blood volume and pressure. They are generally effective, affordable, and often used as a first-line treatment for hypertension. While effective, they may cause side effects like increased urination, electrolyte imbalances, or low blood potassium, so they are typically managed carefully by healthcare providers.
