Thermomechanics
Thermomechanics is the study of how materials and systems behave when thermal energy (heat) interacts with mechanical forces and movements. It combines principles from thermodynamics—how heat is transferred and transformed—with mechanics, which looks at forces, motion, and deformation. This field helps us understand phenomena such as how materials expand when heated, how engines convert heat into motion, and how thermal stresses develop in structures. By analyzing the interplay between heat and mechanics, thermomechanics enables the design of safer, more efficient machines, devices, and materials that perform reliably under thermal and mechanical influences.
