Thermal barrier coatings

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are protective layers applied to engine parts, like turbine blades, to withstand high temperatures. They are made from materials like ceramics that insulate the underlying metal, preventing extreme heat from causing damage or deformation. This allows engines to operate more efficiently, run hotter, and last longer. TBCs also improve fuel economy and reduce maintenance costs by shielding critical components from thermal stress. Essentially, they act as a high-temperature shield, enabling better performance and durability in demanding environments such as aerospace and power generation.
