Therapeutic Use Exemptions

Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) are official approvals that allow athletes to use certain banned medications or substances for medical reasons without violating anti-doping rules. If an athlete has a legitimate health condition requiring treatment with a prohibited drug, they can apply for a TUE, which ensures they’re not unfairly penalized while maintaining fair competition. TUEs are granted only when the athlete’s health and fairness are protected, and they must demonstrate that the use of the substance is necessary and that there are no suitable alternatives.
