Theories of visual perception
Theories of visual perception explain how our brains interpret what we see. The "bottom-up" theory suggests perception starts with processing raw visual information from our eyes, building a picture step-by-step. "Top-down" theory emphasizes that our prior knowledge, experiences, and expectations influence how we interpret visuals. Some theories combine both, proposing that perception results from the interaction between sensory data and mental understanding. These ideas help explain how we recognize objects, depth, motion, and spatial relationships, enabling us to make sense of the complex visual world around us.
