Theories of plant communication

Theories of plant communication suggest that plants can send and receive signals to coordinate their responses to environmental changes. This can occur through chemical signals released into the air or soil when attacked by pests or under stress, alerting nearby plants to activate defenses. Some researchers also propose that plants might use underground networks of fungi called mycorrhizae to share nutrients and information, effectively creating a "communication highway." While plants lack nerves, these mechanisms help them respond collectively, enhancing their survival in competitive or threatening conditions.
