Theories of Intersectionality
Intersectionality is a framework that explores how different social identities—such as race, gender, class, and sexuality—intersect and influence experiences of privilege and discrimination. Rather than viewing these identities separately, intersectionality recognizes that they overlap, creating unique situations of advantage or disadvantage. For example, the experience of a Black woman may be different from that of a Black man or a white woman, because multiple identities interact. This approach helps us understand complex social inequalities and promotes a more comprehensive view of individual experiences within society.
