Theorem of Cognitive Dissonance

The Theorem of Cognitive Dissonance states that when a person's actions or beliefs conflict, it creates mental discomfort. To reduce this discomfort, they often change their beliefs, justify their actions, or find ways to align their thoughts. For example, if someone values healthy eating but indulges in junk food, they might justify it by thinking "I deserve a treat," to ease the inner conflict. This process helps maintain a sense of consistency and self-acceptance, guiding how we think and behave even when faced with conflicting information or actions.
