Theodosius II (Theodosius II of the Eastern Roman Empire)
Theodosius II was a Roman Emperor who ruled the Eastern Roman Empire from 408 to 450 AD. He inherited a large, complex empire and is known for his focus on defense, including strengthening the city of Constantinople’s walls. Despite being young and ruling during a time of turmoil, he supported Orthodox Christianity and codified many laws, producing the influential Theodosian Code. His reign saw continued challenges from barbarian groups and internal political struggles. Theodosius II's reign helped shape the imperial bureaucracy and religious landscape of Byzantium, and he remains a notable figure in late Roman history.
